When it comes to running a business and selling any kind of product there is ONE thing you need more than anything else.

Eyeballs.

Yuck, gross. Eyeballs.

You need PEOPLE to see you. You need to be noticed. The invisible man would never sell a thing.

Blogging online is one of the cheapest, simplest, and most pain-free methods of getting your ideal customers to check you out.

It’s a lot easier than standing on the roof of your house yelling about how good your products are!

You sell dark brown deck chairs in your state? Write a blog post called “Choosing a Dark Brown Deck Chair: Florida”. Then when someone searches google for it you have a fairly good chance of coming up.

You can blog about your latest news, each product you sell, information about local events, how-to information, anything you like! If you run your own blog you can write about whatever you want. Nobody can make you stop… not even your competition!

Promoting Your Blog on Squidoo

When it comes to getting visitors to your blog there are literally thousands of different things you could do.

One of the easiest (and most fun!) is to take advantage of free Squidoo Lenses.

A Squidoo Lens is a page you build on squidoo.com, about whatever you like. Think of it like writing a blog post or article, published on squidoo.com.

Google loves Squidoo, and using it to promote your blog is easy.

Here are some things you could do:

Build a lens ‘About Blog Name‘. I have a lens ‘About SquidooCool.com’, and I use it to highlight some of my blog posts, link to the homepage, and tell people what it’s all about, etc.
Use a Link Module to link to your blog on you related lenses. Google will find the backlink to your blog and your blog will benefit.
Use the RSS Module to feed in your latest posts. Once you’ve set it up it will automatically display links to your latest blog posts, updated hourly.
Join related groups in your niche. Squidoo members are web savvy people, and a lot of them have blogs themselves. Getting subscribers who also have blogs is GREAT for your blog!
Use your Profile page (http://www.squidoo.com/member/profile) to link to your blog, in the External Links section. This put the link to your blog on your Lensmaster Profile page seen by anyone who clicks on your username
Leave GOOD guestbook comments on lenses related to your blog. Don’t post you link, don’t spam, don’t post the same thing again and again on different lenses. Be real, be honest, and be unique. You want the lens visitors and lens owner to be interested in you enough to click your username.

It is because of this power that a blog is a great online money-maker.

Here are some [not all] ways to earn money with your blog:

1. Blogs send visitors to your main website

If there is one place you want people to end up on the web it’s your website. While it’s true that you can sell things directly off your blog it is probably also true that you have a website that you wish to promote with your blog. Good news. Blogs are great at forming trust and directing your visitors to your main website. For example: click here to see a really great tool I use all the time and recommend to everyone.

2. You can earn AdSense money

Google AdSense is an advertising program that lets you profit from people clicking on links and adverts on your blog or website. Your blog posts can carry Google AdSense, so every time you write a post you have income-potential even if you don’t sell your products!

3. You can build a mailing list

Probably the most overused [but still true] piece of advice given by successful Internet Marketers is “the money is in the list”. Instead of constantly trying to find new people to sell your products to… you build a list of subscribers and find new products to sell to them! It flips it all on it’s head, and makes profit-making easy. Of all the websites and blogs I have, I have had the most success building mailing lists from my blogs. Go for it. Build your mailing list! [I provide help info on how to go about this with all blogs too, btw]

4. You can promote affiliate products in your blog posts

If you have been looking for a way to earn an extra income online but haven’t been sure where to start, a blog would be an excellent choice. I bounced around online from one site to the next until I finally realised that if I build up reliable audiences in different niches then I would be able to promote good products to them [that they would likely have bought without me anyway] and get paid a commission for being the middle-man. I recommend things, I get paid a commission. It really feels great when you can fire off a blog post, include a short mention or review of a product, and see sales start trickling in!

These are just 4 ways you can use your blog to earn more money. There are dozens and dozens of other things you could do, but these are enough to get you started

Highlight your best blog posts on a Squidoo Group

Add your best blog posts to StumbleUpon, and encourage others to do the same

Add your blog link to your website sidebar

Put your blog link in the signature of all emails you send out (this can be set to work automatically)

Write and publish a press release at PR websites about your blog launch

Invite guest bloggers – they will promote you to their blog readers

Write comments on related blogs, and make use of the ‘Website’ box after you type your name!
